ted.jpgEven the most experienced businessperson can feel uncomfortable when faced with the prospect of speaking in front of a large group of people. So, to help you get your public speaking mojo working, we have put together four of the best TED talk videos to help with everything from making people listen to using your body language.

The secret to all public speaking

One of the first things that strikes people when it comes to public speaking is how easy it looks when you are in the audience. Chris Anderson, a famous journalist and author, breaks down the common secret factor that is present in public speech along with four ways you can easily adapt it for yourself.

 How to make people listen

Even if you take the time to plan and are confident with your approach, that doesn’t mean your audience will listen to what you have to say. The slightest lack of interest or distraction and you will be very lonely up on that stage. Julian Treasure shows you how to pay attention to all the sounds around you to enable you to overcome silence with great effect

 Using body language

Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how using your body when speaking will not only help you make you point, but can also affect testosterone levels and levels of cortisol (the “stress hormone”) in your brain. This can lead to a successful speech and also help you to speak not only in front of crowds but also in a more confident manner with peers and work colleagues.

 Stage fright

Getting on stage can be the hardest part of the whole process. All the planning and thought that goes into your speech means nothing if you can’t even get started. Joe Kowan, a Boston-based musician and graphic designer, helps you get over stage fright with some humorous and musical results.
