After the legendary Suzuka circuit, Japan hosted the season-opening race of 2016’s Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific in March. Thirty-five riders from 12 countries also successfully completed the second round, which took place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in April.
Up to the second round, Indonesian racer Renaldi Hutasoit achieved a significant accomplishment. Competing in the Trofeo Pirelli, the highest grade in the Ferrari Challenge, in the first race of the round that took place in Japan, Renaldi managed to get to the second podium.
In the second race in the same series, Renaldi also successfully defeated his two strongest rivals, Steve Wyatt from Australia and Florian Merckx from Belgium. In the second round in Abu Dhabi, our honoured red and white national flag also fluttered again after Renaldi finished and won third position in the first race.
The next round of the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific will be held in Shanghai from June 9-11. Commenting on the upcoming races, Renaldi said: "After the race in Japan in the cold and the race in Abu Dhabi, which took place at night, the third round will be the first race in the year that will take place at high temperatures. I'm preparing for the physical conditions as one of my priorities. In addition, for me, confidence is a key to victory, so I welcome the race with an optimism attitude."
The Ferrari Challenge itself is one of the most competitive racing events, as well as a renowned one-make series, in the world. A total of 2,400 riders from some 40 countries have competed against each other since 1993. The Asia Pacific region joined the event in 2011 and 2016 is the sixth time that the competition has been held in the region.
