Elizabeth Taylor once said, “Put on some lipstick and pull yourself together.” How right she was. Crimson or scarlet, velvety matte or glossy, a dab of lisptick is sometimes all you need to glam up a look and take over the world (or just have a jolly good time). This fall, double up on that power armour with the beauty trend spotted all across the FW17 runways—the two-toned pout. Think top lips in ery oranges and bottoms in berry glosses, as painted by Yadim Carranza at Jason Wu to create an ever-so-subtle orange-red effect. Or emulate Val Garland at Giambattista Valli, who took vampy glamour to the next level with a blood-red ombré and ultra-shiny nish. At Andre Gn and Trussardi, gradient tints of dark plum and faded pink harkened back to the styles of the 1920s. The look is easier to recreate than it lets on, with a slew of new multitoned and textured lipsticks and palettes on the market for every lip persuasion, easily applicable with a single swipe or two. So pucker up and go get ’em.
