Fendi sealed its profound and long-lasting bond with Rome by choosing its hometown to celebrate its 90th anniversary, staging a unique event in the Eternal City that included a Fashion Show at the iconic Trevi Fountain.
The Fendi Haute Fourrure Fall/Winter 2016 show was an extravagant sensory overload that left all the spectators in awe. The grand, fairy-tale show also came just in time to celebrate two different events: Fendi’s 90th anniversary and the restoration of the Trevi Fountain, on which all of the models strutted their stuff thanks to a spectacular glass runaway erected over the fountain. The sparkling water and lights fused with the catwalk rhythm giving life to a divinely magical atmosphere.
The collection itself, needless to say, was a pure pleasure to behold. Kendall Jenner opened the show with a striking coat dress embellished with top-notch details. Hand-painted and decorated with lace and 3D leather appliqués, all of the embellishments were complemented by the water’s waves.
“It was, in a way, the mood of my childhood, the Northern fairy-tales,” said Karl Lagerfeld. “I called the show ‘Legends and Fairy Tales’ because it’s a collection that doesn’t relate to everybody, like ready-to-wear—this is very special for people who have a special kind of life.”
The Maison is also releasing the FENDI Roma book at the San Luca Academy inside Palazzo Carpegna alongside “FENDI ROMA - The Artisans of Dreams” exhibition at the Palazzo della Civiltå Italiana. The exhibition was conceived to celebrate the Maison’s unique fur craftsmanship and creativity: the founding and distinctive elements of the luxury Roman House's core values.
Founded in Rome some 90 years ago, Fendi opened its first boutique in 1926 in Via del Plebiscito, when it was a small fur atelier and leather goods workshop. Today, the luxury Maison hosts in-house ateliers and creative temples in which highly-skilled artisans use all their expertise to breathe life into unique creations.
