There’ll always be a time and a place for bold, vibrant prints, but we’re seeing a drastic shift to a softer approach in the coming season. Perhaps the most notable designer to adopt the trend is Miuccia Prada, with quirky retro- inspired prints for her younger label, Miu Miu. Delicate florals and wallpaper- inspired graphics served as a backdrop as well as the fabrication for much of her pre-fall collection. Silk sheath dresses were playfully paired with printed knee- high socks and the surprising snakeskin boot. Similarly, Sydney sensation Ellery also opted for a motif of the traditional sort: paisley graphics in luxe brocade on a tunic top displayed a modern sensibility with a soft touch. Keep in line with the retro sensibility when it comes to accessories—experiment with python or brocade textures, chunky heeled boots or the latest Wink glasses from Miu Miu.
