William’s e-commerce platform, Tokopedia.com, made waves by becoming the first Indonesian start-up to receive funding from juggernaut venture capital company Sequoia Capital, in partnership with SoftBank Internet and Media Inc. He came from humble beginnings, growing up in Pematang Siantar, North Sumatera, and moving to Jakarta to pursue his university studies. When he started Tokopedia, he and his crew worked remotely from their own homes. Today, Tokopedia.com occupies Tokopedia Tower, its shiny new of ce located in Kuningan, South Jakarta. The company continues to launch new services, one of the latest being collaborating with a ride-hailing application to deliver goods to customers.
