The Jakarta-based firm headed by architect Andra Matin has been awarded one of two Special Mentions by the jury of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2018: FREESPACE. This marks the first time that an Indonesian architect has been awarded at the biennale. Matin's showcase "Elevation" at the Arsenale Corderie explores the elevational diversity in Indonesia's vernacular architecture. "The design will bring visitors from one level to another with each level portraying a scale model of Indonesia's vernacural architecture," explained Matin in Jakarta a few days after receiving the award in early June  in Venice. "The vast geographic and cultrual diversity of the country inspires me to expose it this way," he added.
