We caught up with Indonesian actor, model and martial artist Joe Taslim during one of our photo shoots a while ago to find out about his personal insights and preferences, from style, proudest accomplishments to the thing that turns him on—and more.
We all know Joe as one of the most accomplished Indonesian action actors, involved in numerous international hits such as The Raid: Redemption (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), and Star Trek Beyond (2016). But who knew that he also has a peculiar phobia? Intrigued? Read on...
How would you define your personal style?
Very casual and sporty, and, of course, just being myself!
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Being a father! I have three kids, so being a father is the highest accomplishment that I could ever achieve in my life. Not just in terms of career, but in my entire life.
What motto do you live by?
Always give it your all. I always give 100 per cent to everything I do. Just love what you do—love your job.
What turns you on creatively?
Watching good performance, especially good movies. I feel this kind of “interesting” feeling when I watch good movies. It's like it boosts me and drives me to be a better actor. So yeah, good movies creatively boost me.
What is sexy to you?
Sexy to me is healthy, educated and smart!
What profession other than your own would you like to try?
I want to be a coach! A sports coach, to be precise.
What is something about you that you wish people would focus on more?
I think that focusing on me doing things (like being involved in this October’s breast cancer awareness campaign) is great, just doing good. I think that showing that actresses, singers and celebrities don't just focus on their careers—they are also helping somebody else—people could also focus on that.
What are your greatest fears?
I'm afraid of drowning, actually—I'm not a good swimmer at all. I have a phobia of water! [laughs]. I’ve never done scuba diving nor snorkelling. Zero experience. But I want to try someday: I think it could be a great experience.
Where is your favourite holiday spot?
Anywhere with my family. Even only at home, with my wife and my kids, it's just great. Anywhere we go is a holiday for me.
