By naming his son Jan Ethes Srinarendra, Gibran Rakabuming the eldest son of President Joko ’Jokowi’ Widodo hoped that the newborn will grow up to be the most dexterous intelligent leader. In a press conference the proud father elucidated that in contemporary Javanese dialect Jan means ‘most’, Ethes means ‘agile’ and Srinarendra means ‘intelligent leader’.
The first grandchild of President Jokowi was born in Solo, Central Java, at the PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital on 9.30 a.m. Thursday March 10 2016. “The birthing process went smoothly. Thank you so much to PKU Muhammadiyah’s team of doctors,” said Gibran the eager father of the healthy baby boy weighing 3.090 kilogrammes and 48.5 centimetres tall. Mardiyatmo the Director of Muhammadiyah Hospital explained that the birthing process of the President’s first grandchild is smooth. “The mother enters the labour ward at 07.03 a.m. and gave birth on 09.28 in the morning,” Mardiyatmo gave details.
In Jakarta a few minutes later Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung confirmed the good news that President Jokowi’s daughter-in-law Selvi Ananda, wife of his eldest son Gibran Rakabuming, gave birth to a son in Jokowi's hometown Solo, on 9:30 a.m.. "Please pray that he will be a devout son and respectful to his parents. May he be granted with health and happiness," Pramono stated in a text message to the press.
On 7.20 p.m. President Joko Widodo left Jakarta from Halim Perdanakusuma airport aboard Presidential Aircraft RI-001and arrived in Adisumarmo the airport of Solo at 8.30 p.m. From the airport the President went straight to his private residence at Jalan Kutai Utara, Sumber, and from there with First Lady Iriani proceed to Muhammadiyah Hospital to greet his first grandchild.
The next day after giving a general lecture at UNS the State University of Surakarta, in the evening President Joko Widodo for the second time visited PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital. The President headed straight to the second floor of Annisa B, Sweet Room 1 of the hospital where the baby's mother, Selvi Ananda, is recuperating.
There is no special party given by the First Family to welcome their first 3G. But in President Jokowi’s hometown Solo, on Thursday afternoon just a few hours from the birth of the first grandchild, traditional food hawkers at the central market Pasar Gede shared specially prepared “jenang merah putih” rice broths with everyone who passes by. “It is how we greet and welcome a newborn,“ said a smiling hawker clad in neat traditional kebaya.
