Jacob Oetama

Dr (HC) Jakob Oetama, born in Borobodur, Magelang, in September 27, 1931, is one of the most noteworthy pioneers in Indonesian print journalism. Known nationally as the President Director of the Kompas Gramedia Group and the owner of TV7, he was a junior high school teacher before embarking on a journalistic career as a reporter. His Bachelor’s degree was from Gajah Mada University’s Journalism programme in 1961; then he established Intisari magazines. In 2003, he received an honorary doctorate in communications from Gajah Mada University.
