The Peninsula builts its reputation on the finest traditions of service and hospitality, while the 30-storey extension that opened in December 1994 has since combined the hotel's heritage with the very best in modern facilities for the business and leisure traveller.
The tower rises from within the site of the original hotel in an area that was previously the rear podium. The extension added 132 rooms and suites making a total of 300, and it includes 10 floors of prime office space; shops and a range of hotel facilities, among them a swimming pool and the sun terrace; the state-of-the-art Fitness Centre; The Peninsula Spa; a business centre; banquet and meeting rooms; and Felix, a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views of the city created by renowned French architect and designer Philippe Starck.
On the roof of the tower, twin helipads offer hotel guests quick and easy access by helicopter to the airport and destinations around the territory. This facility is served by a seperate elevator and features The China Clipper, a private lounge with a reception and communications centre. The Peninsula takes pride in being the only hotel with this exemplary service.
Located on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, overlooking the glamorous Victoria Harbour, The peninsula is right at the heart of Kowloon's business, shopping and entertainment districts. Access to Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway subway system is less than a minute's walk from the hotel, enabling guests to travel around the city, the New Territories and into China. The Star Ferry, a more leisurely way to reach the Island, is a mere five-minute walk from the hotel, and Chek Lap Kok International Airport is only a 40-minute drive away.
The tower benefits from the raising of the former height restriction on the Kowloon peninsula. Thus, all tower rooms and suites have wholly unobstructed views of either Hong Kong Island and Victoria Harbour to the south, or the city and mountain ranges of Kowloon to the north. In the original building, five guest floors contained a total of 141 guest rooms and 27 suites, while the tower featured 11 guest-room floors comprising 105 guest rooms and 27 suites.
Completing the HK$450 million room-enhancement programme that began in January 2012, these rooms showcase bespoke luxury, detailed craftsmanship and a timeless, clasically modern aesthetic that melds the distinctive design touches. Each of the bedside panels in the rooms and suites feature 11 languages to suit the needs of its guests.
Moreover, The Peninsula has an in-house research and development team to ensure guests are treated to phenomenal service. Other than its fabulous establishment in Hong Kong, The Peninsula Paris recently opened in August 2014.
MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT
The Peninsula Spa offers a deeply personalised spa experience that cannot be found anywhere else in Hong Kong. The 1,116-square-metre spa occupies two floors offering sweeping views of Victoria Harbour, plus 14 state-of-the-art treatment rooms, making for an oasis of calm in the city for guests to renew themselves in mind, body and spirit.
The Peninsula Spa has recently launched Sattva by Simply Peninsula, which is a brand-new spa programme featuring Vedic Aromatheraphy treatments. Meanwhile, Margy's Monte Carlo is a results-driven anti-aging facial treatment that is exclusive in Hong Kong and available at The Peninsula Spa.
The technologically advanced Jacuzzi, saunas and steam rooms are also some of the facilities available at the Thermal Suite, within The Peninsula Spa.
The Peninsula's swimming pool on the eight floor has been designed to offer swimmers uninterrupted views of Hong Kong skyline, while a retractable glass screen can be closed over the front elevation of the entire pool area to allow year-round use. The pool is 18 metres long, 1.5 metres deep, and is modelled on a classical Roman theme with columns, friezes, statues, and niches to create the feeling of a palatial setting.
The pool is linked to the sun terrace and Fitness Centre, which extends out over the west wing of the original building and covers an area of approximately 1,600 square metres.
Guests have access to services such as valets, concierge, messengers, money changers, babysitters, interpreters, translators, secretarial and administrative services, a house doctor on call and nursing cover for non-clinic hours. Car hire, sightseeing and tours can also be arranged on request.
For those who are keen to explore Hong Kong's exclusive shopping scene, an extensive shopping arcade comprising more than 90 shops offers guests a wide selection of luxury and brand-name items, including fashion and tailoring, jewelery and leather goods, while The Peninsula Boutique, featuring artisanal chocolates made by the Chocolate Room, is led by the hotel's award-winning Maître Chocolatier Marijin Coertjens.
A fleet of chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce limousines (including 14 Rolls-Royce Extended Wheelbase Phantoms and one 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II) and two MINI Cooper S Clubmans are available for airport transfer or private hire. Meanwhile, the hotel offers helicopter "flight sight-seeing" tours and luxury airport transfers, which can be arranged through the Concierge.
