Last June, Indonesians enjoyed a new kind of luxury in local locomotive transport: a luxury sleeper train. Operated by Argo Bromo Anggrek, the luxury train cars serve four routes from Gambir Station in Central Jakarta to Pasar Turi Station in Surabaya. The train departs twice a day from Jakarta and Surabaya at 9:30am and 9:30pm and 8am and 8:30 am, respectively.
Consisting of 18 seats, the new sleeper train guarantees seclusion and privacy for each guest. However, the main highlight can be found in the seats, which can be reclined up to 170 degrees to form a bed. Equipped with partitions, each seat comes with a 12-inch touchscreen TV, reading lamp, comfy pillow, warm blanket, locker, USB charging power source, coat hanger, and spacious legroom. Passengers will also receive two meals, drinks and snacks.
In a report in The Jakarta Post, it was stated that PT Industri Kerata Api is currently working to build six other trains and will add other potential routes such as Jakarta-Yogyakarta, Jakarta-Surakarta and Jakarta-Purwokerto. Argo Bromo Anggrek is operated by state-owned Kereta Api Indonesia and is priced at a promo rate of Rp900,000 during Ramadan month.
