What does it take to be a magnificent hotel? Well, to start with, everything has to be the best. But then sometimes even the best is not enough. Like a maturing fine wine, it can take time for a hotel to really achieve greatness and stature. And so it is with the Hotel Danieli in Venice, which has taken decades to reach the revered status it has now. Located strategically next to Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs and just steps away from St. Mark’s Square, the Hotel Danieli offers travellers privileged access to the city and a magical and dreamy experience.

Indeed, such is its opulence that this magnificent hotel features in the movie The Tourist starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. The award-winning hotel offers opulence packed with fine classical art and is part of the Luxury Collection by Starwood Hotels and Resorts. In November 2012, the Luxury Collection unveiled four magnificent suites at the Hotel Danieli: the Doge Dandolo Royal Suite, the Signature Diva Suite, the Signature Soprano Suite, and the Signature Princess Suite in the historic Palazzo Dandolo in the hotel.

Designed by renowned interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, these four exquisite suites have reinforced the Hotel Danieli’s position as the luxury traveller’s destination of choice in Venice. The majestic Doge Dandolo Royal Suite is named after Doge Enrico Dandolo, a famous Venetian from the Middle Ages. Restored in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, the 150-square-metre Venetian-style suite pays homage to traditional Italian craftsmanship and features contemporary touches to suit today’s global traveller. This suite boasts breath-taking views of St. Mark’s Basin, San Giorgio Maggiore Island, and Venice’s Grand Canal.

The Signature Diva Suite, Signature Soprano Suite and Signature Princess Suite were inspired by three illustrious female figures from the worlds of fashion, music and cinema. Pierre-Yves Rochon commented: “My wish was to recreate the unique allure of these great female icons of our time, just like what Hotel Danieli represents in the world of international hospitality.”

The furnishings integrate modern technology with the original furniture, exuding a warm and familiar ambience. The fabrics and the tapestries, created exclusively for the Doge Dandolo Royal Suite by Donghia of Rubelli, are gold and saffron. The Signature Soprano Suite is dedicated to one of the most mesmerising opera singers of the 20th century, whose favourite colours of green and sage take centre stage. Soothing shades of pale pink and light grey become the colour palette for the Signature Princess Suite, which was designed with an extraordinary 1950’s cinema icon in mind, renowned for her grace and charm, while rich bronze colours dominate the Signature Diva Suite, inspired by one of the most legendary actresses from the 1930s.

Lighting was a key element for the restoration, leveraging natural daylight while illuminating the suites’ spaciousness to create a perfect balance between the interior and the surrounding cityscape. The grand windows offer breathtaking views of St. Mark’s Basin and St. George’s Church.

“In an era of globalisation where Hotel Danieli is recognised as a true symbol of Venice, the attention to comfort and the extraordinary details of Venetian heritage in these unique and newly restored suites in Palazzo Dandolo show our continued commitment to support traditional crafts of excellence that are indigenous to the region,” said Antonello De Medici, General Manager of the hotel. “At the same time, we provide our guests with a place to completely relax, instilling in them the wish to extend their visit.” We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
