Whether you want to swim next to giant sea turtles, explore coral reefs, or visit old shipwrecks, scuba diving is the best way to experience the underwater world. And the Indonesian archipelago has a rich array of underwater wonders just waiting to be explored, which offer some of the diving spots in the world. From Bali, Komodo, Raja Ampat, Wakatobi and Weh Island to the Gili islands, all are top destinations for the perfect diving holiday. And it’s now official.
As reported by the Antara news agency, Indonesia has been awarded as The Most Beautiful Diving Destination 2016 during the Diving and Resort Travel Expo 2016 (DRT) held in Taipei from June 17-19.
The chairman of the DRT Organizing Committee, Jason Chong, said, during the award presentation ceremony, that they had closely observed Indonesia for this award. “We went directly to Indonesia. We dived, we witnessed the beauty of Indonesia. We coordinated with our team in Indonesia. And finally, we decided that Indonesia deserves this award,” said Jason. The award was received by Vincensius Jemadu, assistant to the Deputy for Asia and Pacific Market Development of the Tourism Ministry in Taipei.
Indonesia itself has more than 700 diving and snorkelling spots, all of which are extraordinary beautiful. With more than 17,000 islands, many located in the centre of the Coral Triangle Area, Indonesia is the best choice for diving tourism. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that Indonesia has huge potential because two thirds of the worlds coral are in Indonesia and the country boasts unparalleled biodiversity.
Seven of the 10 priority tourist destinations being developed and promoted now by the government are maritime tourist resorts comprising coastal, underwater and sea zones. Arief said that his ministry will continue to boost the promotion of marine tourism.
