On March 9, the Island of the Gods will celebrate its sacred New Year, Nyepi, which is undoubtedly the oldest and the most important day in the Hindu calendar on Bali. The Balinese New Year is also known as “the day of silence”, with the whole island observing 24 hours of quiet without engaging in any kind of activities. Moreover, this year’s Nyepi will be extra-special since the New Year coincides with a total solar eclipse.
Inspired by this celestial coincidence, Four Seasons Resort Bali will host Nyepi Eclipse Yoga sessions at its two Bali resorts: the riverside mountain retreat of Sayan and the all-villa beach resort of Jimbaran Bay.
Embracing Bali’s natural beauty, the meditation-inspired yoga sessions will be held on the edge of the ocean located at the new Nirvana Shanti Yoga Bale at Jimbaran Bay, as well as on the edge of the forest at Dharma Shanti Yoga Bale at Sayan. Guests will be guided through gentle and mindful asanas, pranayama breathing, nidra relaxation practice, and chants of peace and light set to soothing sounds.
The 90-minute complimentary class will begin at 8am following the eclipse, which, in Bali, will be observed as a partial solar eclipse starting at 7:22am local time. The eclipse will reach its peak at 8:27am and will end at 9:42am.
Four Seasons Resort Bali is also offering other Nyepi-related activities, such as observing the lively parades of ogoh-ogoh papier-mache statues on Nyepi Eve, which take place in every village on the island.
The yoga is a part of the resort's ‘Nyepi Eclipse’ package, available at Four Seasons Sayan and Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, which includes accommodation in a One-Bedroom villa, daily breakfast, a 3-course set lunch and 3-course set dinner, among others.
“Nyepi is a special time of purification and renewal supported by silence and inactivity, as nature turns within and encourages us to do the same. To have this combined with a total solar eclipse makes it even more unique,” said Luisa Anderson, Regional Spa Director for Four Seasons Resorts Bali.
