Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston isn’t new to the commercial world. The former Friends star has been featured in numerous ads, from Heineken and Smartwater to Emirates Airline. The last one debuted in 2015 and showed the actress, playing herself, having a nightmare about not being on a plane with shower or bar.
The 47-year old actress is now returning for another commercial for Emirates, but with a twist. In the ad, Aniston flies on the A380 plane and befriends a young boy named Cooper who wanders into her private, first class suite. The two then stroll around the cabin and make a pit stop at the airplane bar for two glasses of fresh carrot juice before heading to economy class where Cooper’s family are. The twist comes when Aniston decides to stay in the economy class, in the middle seat nonetheless, and gives up her first-class seat for the boy’s mother.
Directed by Oscar nominee Bryan Buckley, the ad cleverly took a shot at other airlines by showcasing the appeal of its Economy class and not just focusing on premium offers. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt’s ex-wife reportedly bagged a US$5 million (Rp 65 Billion) deal to appear in the adverts and to become the airline’s celebrity face. A decision the company very well agreed to.
“We were overrun with requests to see Jennifer again. She has an enduring, universal appeal that is at once sophisticated, but also down to earth – a great match for our brand,” says Boutros Boutros, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President.
