Van Cleef & Arpels' "The Art and Science of Gems", which will be held at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, is a unique amalgamation that explores both the artistic skills required for the creation of exquisite jewellery as well as the geological processes involved in the formation of minerals and gemstones.
The ArtScience Museum is an institution that explores the links between art, science, culture and technology. All of its exhibitions and programmes show how subjects can be understood through the emotional connections created through art and the understanding generated by science.
At the heart of this exhibition are more than 400 pieces of jewellery carefully selected from the Van clef & Arpels collection and those of private collectors, reflecting the authenticity, skill and expertise of the Maison.
Aside from these pieces, important natural treasures and scientific artifacts from the world-renowned Minerals and Gems Collection of the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris, invited to participate by L’Ecole Van Cleef & Arpels, will be shown alongside the jewellery.
This exhibition aims to blend art, craft, history and geoscience in a highly distinctive but luxurious manner. Visitors will be taken on a dramatic journey through the origins of minerals from the deep earth to its surface. At the same time, visitors are also taken on a journey of extraordinary craftsmanship that transfigures these rare minerals into pieces of art.
Held from April 23-August 14, The Art & Science of Gems will be on display daily from 10am-7pm.
