Fashion and food trends aren’t the only juicy thing to look forward to in 2017! We can’t wait to discover more slang words that will entertain us this year, in the hopes that it will top last year’s. Let’s look back at the slangs that defined 2016 and should continue well into 2017!


If you don’t know anybody who is extra, you’re missing out. Extra basically means someone who is over the top, think Jujubee from RuPaul's and Cam from Modern Family.


Whether it’s good or bad, shook can be used to describe anything that either scares you or thrills you. Basically it’s anything that blows you away.


Short for suspect, this word is generally used to describe anything and anyone that’s suspicious.


Slightly different from “fam”, fambam is a more fun way of calling your family or friends. Here’s an example:

“Hey, what are you up to tonight?”
“Dinner with the fambam”


Similar to its original word, anyone who’s savage is not afraid to do something “brutally”. Needless to say, it’s exaggerated. For example: “Eating cake like a savage”.

High Key

You’ve probably heard of its opposite, low key. Meanwhile, High Key describes something that needs to be said bluntly.


Woke can either be used to depict someone who is aware or sympathetic towards other people or social injustice. It has been tied that the rise in popularity of "woke" to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Do you know that Singer Erykah Badu first used "stay woke" in her 2008 song Master Teacher?
